STATEWIDE WATERSHED
PROGRAM ANNOUNCES
SUMMARY OF INITIAL PUBLIC
OUTREACH EFFORTS
The Statewide Watershed
Program Advisory Committee
conducted a wide-ranging
public outreach campaign that
included nearly thirty public meetings throughout
the state from February through May 2008. The
Committee received over 1500 comments.

A final report summarizing the input received has
been prepared and is available on the Statewide
Watershed Program's webpage.

Announcement for
CALIFORNIA NATIVE PLANT
SOCIETY CONSERVATION
CONFERENCE
January17-19, 2009
The conference will focus on: 1) finding and
promoting solutions to the environmental
challenges confronting California’s flora 2)
integrating the best science with the most
effective public policies to meet these challenges
3) pressing forward more and better regional and
statewide landscape-level conservation
initiatives.

By addressing such topics as climate change,
rare plant biology, restoration, mitigation
strategies, vegetation ecology, environmental
policy, invasive species, conservation genetics,
regional planning, urbanization, and more, this
conference will integrate and synthesize
conservation science with policy and catalyze
California’s plant conservation in the 21st

LOS ANGELES RIVER FORUM
Solutions to Pollution Issues

On Thursday May 22nd at the
Aquarium of the Pacific in Long
Beach, there will be a public
forum designed to encourage
an informed dialogue about the
potential solution to protect
our beaches, marina and harbor affected by the Los
Angeles River. See the flyer for details.

Topics to be discussed include: current Long Beach
efforts, upstream source pollution, stormwater
management, TMDLs, trash and chemical pollut-
ants, funding and implemention, and much more.

LASGRWC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization of
community groups, government agencies, business
and academia working cooperatively to solve
problems in the watershed.

Its mission is: to facilitate an inclusive consensus process to preserve, restore, and enhance the economic, social, and ecological health of the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Rivers Watershed through education, research, and planning.
 
 
The Council hosts quarterly watershed symposia, each with a moderated discussion by a panel of experts, followed by a discussion with the audience. Each symposium topic will be featured in a more extended discussion in the following issue of WatershedWise.
